against cia drones. it will start in the capital of islamabad. president obama has led a dramatic escalation in drone strikes. the majority of people killed have been alleged militants. but there are militants -- civilians that are among the dead. from islamabad, our reporter has this story. >> in the skies overhead, day and night. in the pakistani tribal belt, there is no escape from cia drones and no knowing where they will strike. this was one of america's biggest victories, a strike in june that killed al qaeda's second in command. the u.s. says drones are weapons that limit collateral damage. we met some of those on the receiving end who beg to differ. they have lost 12 relatives between them, all civilians, they insist. he buried two on companies and two cousins. >> when i saw their bodies in pieces, my heart wanted revenge. it still does. >> the remote control killers are president obama's weapon of choice, and not only in pakistan. they hunt down the enemy without boots on the ground. but one former british soldier with fresh and experience -- firsthand experience says dro

that was completely wrong. >> and friday, another october surprise. president obama getting a boost with the new unemployment rate report. the rate dipping below 8 persh for the first time since the president took office in 2009, which brings us to the next surprise. the obama campaign cash that was raised last month. september proved to be a lucrative month for the president's re-election campaign. democrats raised $181 million. that's a record. joining me live from washington, peter hamby. that's a whole lot of cash raised. very amazing. say many, and all in one month. how was it done? big donors, small donors, what? >> the campaign says 98% of this money came from people giving $250 or less. sptd was a very big month for democrats. polls show that the convention really brought home the democratic base and these numbers just reaffirm it. this is the biggest monthly total of this campaign. this is the money that the obama campaign and the democratic national committee have collected together. it means they're only about $50 million short of raising $1 billion for this whole campaign. so they're

, steered personally by president obama which was unprecedented in my experience. the president brought together the leadership of the department of defense and others in a conversation about the future trajectory of national defence that went on through several months. we made a series of decisions through that process to design a balance, effective defense strategy, taking into account cuts imposed upon us and above all making the transition. .. >> underlying our security engagement with the region is our support for longstanding principles that go well beyond security. a free and open access to commerce, of a just international order that upholds the rule of law, of open access to all domains, and of the peaceful resolution of disputes. we seek a peaceful asia-pacific region where all the states of the region, all of them, can enjoy the benefits of security and continue to prosper just as they have for almost 70 years, since the valiant efforts of the brave men and women who fought so courageously in world war ii. indeed, part of the reason states in the region have been able to pros

.s. unemployment rate has fallen to 7.8%, the lowest point to date since president obama took office. employers added 114,000 workers in september, and revised figures showed employment gains in previous months were higher than previously thought. the number marked a boost to president obama's reelection bid in the aftermath of his widely criticized debate performance last week. addressing supporters of the university of virginia, obama said the country has come too far to turn back. >> more people are getting jobs. every month reminds us we still have too many friends and neighbors who are looking for work, and to many middle-class families are struggling to pay the bills. they were struggling long before the crisis hit. but today's news certainly is not an excuse to try to talk down the economy to score a few political points. it is a reminder this country has come too far to turn back now. >> also campaigning in virginia, republican challenger mitt romney downplayed the new figures. >> this cannot go on. when i am president of the united states, when i am president of the united states -- [a

the obama administration over their approach to syria. he was clear he would be sure that syrian rebels got the weapons they need, the heavy weaponry they so desperately need to take on the gun ships an tanks causing civilian casualties. he portrayed the struggle as more about checking iran's influence in that region, but he also pointed out one of the major contradictions the white house is currently facing, the violence extremists are flowing in, but the need to vet the kind of assistance it would go to. >> most libyans have not been following the presidential campaign. the attention has been on the country's own political situation. on sunday, the national assembly voted out the prime minister it had selected less than a month ago go. libya is now facing a political vacuum at a time of serious threats an instability. but one line from mitt romney's speech that would stand out to libyans, he said he would vigorously pursue those responsible for the september 11th attackn the u.s. consulate in benghazi. libyan officials here have praised the obama's administration response to the attack an

the tax breaks at year end gives republicans an incentive to act. presidents -- president obama has stated without equivocation that he will veto an extension of the tax cuts for the above must bracket. they may soon realize that it is far better to extend 98% of the tax cut than none at all. this story in today's "financial times" which i commend to you reading here but i didn't bring it. oh, yes, i did. it's right here. republicans shift tone on taxing the rich. and it suggests many republicans are reaching that conclusion. now, that would be the breakthrough tax reform needs. democrats should seize on this. it is interesting -- for years, many of my colleagues have fought to end of the reduced rate on the wealthiest americans in the context of the bush tax cut debate per yet suddenly, when the idea of cutting tax rates for the wealthy is peddled under the guise of tax reform, too many people forget their opposition to it. that makes no sense. the contradiction just goes to show how deep the nostalgia for the 1986 tax reform agreement is. and for the bipartisan cooperation that made it p

.e.a.l.s on the instructions of president obama? >> translator: i would have been happier to see a transparent trial, a formal trial, and find out the root causes of all of the events of the last few years. >> you have been reported as saying that you believe it is possible that the american government were partly responsible for the events of 9/11. that caused a huge outrage. do you stand by that position? >> translator: of course, the polls taken inside the united states show that over 75% of the united states population are still somewhat nebulous about the real reasons of that event, of those events. what i said were a number of questions. an event has occurred. due to that, two countries have been occupied and the conflict still continues. every day, hundreds of people in afghanistan, pakistan and iraq are killed. would it not have been better to have a more precise analysis and find out the true in-depth reason of the events of september 11th, make that -- make those findings transparent to the populations in the nations across the world, and then have a response in unison. of course, the expense would

-- dry up the money by 2016. if what i think is going to happen happens and president obama wins, i think that too will break the logjam for a different reason. as senator mcconnell says their number one goal for the last four years has been denying him a second term. as soon as he gets that, they can't deny him a third term. he can't have one anyway. so i think you will see, i will just make a prediction. i think in the lame duck session they will avoid the fiscal cliff, they will reach an agreement-- . >> rose: by extending it, by some kind of an extension or by making a deal. >> they'll either make a deal or they will have a short extension which makes it clear this is not another year, i predict that you will get a budget deal early next year f not in this lame duck session. and i think you'll see them start to work together. it is going to be a different world. >> rose: because the election will have that kind of consequence. >> absolutely. >> one of romney's top foreign policy advisors said the other day that obama has made the united states look impo nent the world. dot facts bear

the conflict, the resolution will be a palestinian state. and president obama adopted this approach and she's calling upon us, the israelis to build a palestinian state and go back to 1967 lines. and in my book, a new paradigm. enough with a two-state solution. it doesn't work. we have tried for the last 20 years. we signed the accord and we haven't received any peace. we tried to do it at this engagement from gaza. it didn't help us as well. i think it should be a three state solution and not a two-state solution. and when i speak about three state solution, i speak about jordan and egypt and israel. i do not believe it should be a palestinian state, because look at what's happening today in gaza it's becoming a link of iran. a link of islamic radical forces come and you have to ask yourself do we want to see the same happening in jerusalem? i do not. and in my book i have a lot of criticism regarding that administration, i call it administration, but there are some more decisions. and decision to eliminate osama bin laden, i think it was the leadership inaction for president obama to deci

catch yourself doing that. do something else. >> how about talking about president obama that observers say that he did not really quite start strong. >> however there are some of the basic things that it does right. he does his gestures with in the containment of this body. if he had added energy to that it would have been perfect. because high energy but contained and focus. and his gestures are not as big as macrame. >> correct. >> it is better for an executive although no and again you want to expand. >> if you would say to keep that up but the energy level? >> is exactly those gestures will not be has impact fall. >> let us go to our next clip. a lot of people say that he just looked tired. >> he did. he looked lethargic and he did not look focused and did not want to be there. i think mitt romney switch. he was more prepared. >> and on this other screen with the it is really very telling. >> and i think that what is the most telling is the lack of by contact. and it is a very submissive signal and a very stressful signal. it made him look like he had to look at his notes because h
